Colonel Jeffrey M. Kain is a native of St. Louis, Missouri. He was commissioned as an Infantry Officer through the ROTC program at the University of Tampa in May 2005. Prior to his commissioning, Colonel Kain served in the United States Marine Corps. Colonel Kain’s first assignment was with the 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where he served as a Rifle Platoon Leader, Scout Platoon Leader, and Company Executive Officer. He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with 3/187.
Following Fort Campbell, he commanded a company within the 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, before reassignment to Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, where he commanded C Company and Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 6th Ranger Training Battalion.
Colonel Kain later served in several key staff and command positions. He served as a Battalion Operations and Executive Officer at Fort Benning, Georgia, and later as the Brigade Operations Officer for the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, Georgia. His broadening assignments include serving as a Future Operations Planner for the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Colonel Kain commanded the 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment "Manchus" at Fort Carson, Colorado, and was then assigned to serve as the Chief of Operations for U.S. Army Europe and Africa (USAREUR-AF) in Wiesbaden, Germany.
Colonel Kain holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Tampa, as well as masters’ degrees from the Naval War College and the Army War College. His military education includes Ranger School, Airborne School, Jumpmaster School, Air Assault School, and the Reconnaissance and Surveillance Leaders Course.
