COL Brendan J. Cullinan


The Army Aviation Brigade

Colonel Brendan J. Cullinan is the commander of The Army Aviation Brigade, Davison Army Airfield, Ft. Belvoir, Virginia. He was commissioned as an Aviation Officer in 1999 following graduation from Tufts University. Col. Cullinan's first assignment was with the 4th Squadron, 7th Cavalry Division, 2nd Infantry Division, Korea, where he served as a Support and Aero-Scout Platoon Leader.

Col. Cullinan’s other assignments include the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment and 1st Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division at Fort Carson, Colorado; US Army Human Resources Command in Alexandria, Virginia; 7th Squadron, 17th Cavalry and Headquarters & Headquarters Battalion, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Headquarters Department of the Army, G-3/5/7, the Pentagon, Washington, D.C.; the 12th Aviation Battalion, The Army Aviation Brigade, Fort Belvoir, Virginia; and the Office, Crystal City, Virginia. He deployed twice to both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

Col. Cullinan’s military training and education include the Initial Entry Rotary Wing Course; Aviation Officer Basic Course; the OH-58D Aircraft Qualification Course; Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE) Course, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Aviation Captain's Career Course; the United Kingdom’s Joint Services Command & Staff College; UH-60 A/L and M Aircraft Qualification Courses; and the C-12 Aircraft Qualification Course. He was awarded a Master of Arts in Defence Studies from King’s College – London in 2010 and a Master of Science in National Security Strategy from National Defense University’s National War College in 2022.

His awards include the Bronze Star Medal (three oak leaf clusters), Air Medal with V Device, Air Medal (numeral two), Meritorious Service Medal (three oak leaf clusters), Army Commendation Medal (two oak leaf clusters), Army Achievement Medal (one oak leaf cluster), Senior Aviator Badge, and Army Staff Badge.

He is married to the former Rebecca Scott of Acton, Massachusetts. They have four children: Aidan, Emerson, Aoife, and Declan.
