Deputy Commanding General - Inauguration (PI60)

Brig. Gen. Bevis is the Deputy Commanding General–Inauguration assigned to the Joint Task Force–National Capital Region (JTF–NCR), a subordinate unit to U.S. Northern Command. He oversees the planning, coordination, and execution of the Department of Defense’s ceremonial support for the 60th Presidential Inauguration events. As the official DoD liaison, he works with the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies and the Presidential Inaugural Committee to coordinate and conduct military ceremonial support at the Inaugural events.

General Bevis began his military career in 1986 in the Arkansas Air National Guard serving as an enlisted member in the intelligence field reaching the grade of E-6. General Bevis was commissioned in 1994 through the Academy of Military Science. He earned a Bachelor of Business Arts for Marketing at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He also holds a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College, multiple Federal Aviation Administration pilot ratings, is an Air Force Command Pilot and Maintenance Officer, and was a fully licensed Investment Broker. He is a Joint Qualified Officer having served in seven Joint assignments, a graduated Wing Commander, and former Congressional Fellow. He has proudly served for over 38 years. 

Prior to his current assignment, he was the Vice Director of Staff, National Guard Bureau (NGB), Pentagon. He synchronized and integrated policy, plans, budgetary programs, and cross-functional issues within the NGB Army, Air and Joint Staffs as they supported the State’s 54 National Guard organizations. His responsibilities included direct support to the Chief, NGB, as a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Vice Chief, NGB. 

His previous key assignments include: Deputy Commander, North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Mission Iraq in Baghdad, Chief of Staff for the Delaware National Guard, 166th Airlift Wing Commander, Vice Commander and Mission Support Group Commander. His other notable leadership assignments include four NGB Deputy Director assignments with Air National Guard Programs (A8), NGB Joint Operations (J3), NGB Plans and Policy (J5), and NGB Office of Legislative Liaison. In his role as the Deputy Director of Mobility Forces to AFCENT’s Combined Air Operations Center he supported airlift mobility to Operations FREEDOM’s SENTINAL, SPARTAN SHIELD, and INHERIT RESOLVE. He also served in the Office of Secretary of Defense as a Senior Policy Advisor to the Reserve Forces Policy Board and as the NGB’s wartime planner supporting mobility aviation deployments of Air National Guard personnel in the early phases of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM and through the initial planning and subsequent deployments supporting OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM. 

Gen. Bevis’ major awards and decorations include two Defense Superior Service Medals with the Combat designator, three Defense Meritorious Awards, four Meritorious Service Medals, two Army Commendation Medals, NATO Service Medal Iraq, Headquarters Air Force Badge, Office of Secretary of Defense Badge, and National Guard Bureau Service Badge.
