CSM Vern B. Daley Jr.

Command Sergeant Major

Command Sgt. Maj. Vern B. Daley Jr. is the command sergeant major for the Joint Task Force-National Capital Region and the U.S. Army Military District of Washington, Ft. McNair, Washington, D.C.  Daley enlisted in the military in May 1989. He completed Infantry One Station Unit Training (OSUT) as an Anti-Armor Infantryman at Ft. Benning, Georgia (now known as Fort Moore).

Daley has served in the Army National Guard, Army Reserve, and Regular Army for more than 35 years in various Airborne, Light, and Stryker Infantry assignments throughout the United States and overseas. His assignments include: A co 1/167th IN ANG, HHC 2/152AR ANG, A co 1-20SFG ABN, D co 3-327th IN (Ft. Campbell), D co 1-325AIR (Ft. Bragg), D co 1-503rd IN (ROK), B co and D co 2-11th IN (Ft. Benning), D co 3-509th IN ABN (Ft. Richardson), B co and HHC 1-501IN ABN (Ft. Richardson), HHC 4-25 BCT ABN (Ft. Richardson), 5-1CAV (Ft. Wainwright), BTB 1/25th SBCT (Ft. Wainwright), 3-21IN 1/25th SBCT (Ft. Wainwright), 193rd IN BDE (Ft. Jackson), Infantry Branch SGM, EPMD, HRC (Ft. Knox), 11/19 TM, SMMD, HRC (Ft. Knox), Chief CMB, SMMD, HRC (Ft. Knox), Sergeant Major at PEO SOLDIER (Ft. Belvoir), and Command Sergeant Major at the 11th Airborne Division (Arctic) JBER.

Daley has held leadership positions as a Team Leader, Squad Leader, Section Leader, Platoon Sergeant, First Sergeant, Battalion Command Sergeant Major, Brigade Command Sergeant Major and Division Command Sergeant Major. His most recent assignment was Command Sergeant Major for the 11th Airborne Division and United States Army Alaska, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska.

Daley is a graduate of Excelsior College with a Bachelor of Science degree. His military education includes the basic airborne course, jumpmaster course, air assault course, total army instructors course, and all levels of the noncommissioned officer education system. He is a graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy Class 62, the Nominative Leaders Course and the Strategic Broadening Program at The United States Army War College.

His awards and decoration include the Bronze Star Medal, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal, and Valorous Unit Award. Daley has earned the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Expert Infantryman Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, the Air Assault Badge and the Order of St. Maurice (Primicerius) and Order of St. Michael.

Daley is married to the former Suzanne Rauch, and they have 2 adult children: AnnaBeth, and Buddy.
