Our Dual-hatted Command
Joint Task Force-National Capital Region (JTF-NCR)

The Joint Task Force-National Capital Region (JTF-NCR) is a subordinate unit of U.S. Northern Command, plans, coordinates, maintains situational awareness, and as directed, partners in the employment of forces to conduct continuity of government/operations, homeland defense, and civil support operations in the National Capital Region to mitigate regional challenges.


U.S. Army Military District of Washington (USAMDW)

The U.S. Army Military District of Washington (USAMDW) is a direct report unit to the Chief of Staff of the Army, serves as the Army Forces Component to, and core staff element of, the Joint Task Force-National Capital Region, and provides operational, ceremonial and musical support, and executive travel, across a full spectrum of worldwide responsibilities to support our Nation’s leaders.



Our Subordinate Commands
  • 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), the Army's oldest active-duty infantry unit, the official ceremonial unit and escort to the president, responsible for conducting memorial affairs missions and official military ceremonies at the White House, the Pentagon, national memorials and elsewhere in the nation’s capital, and provides consequence management support to the National Capital Region.

  • The U.S. Army Aviation Brigade is the Military District of Washington’s global and regional aviation provider for Army Senior Leadership and provides consequence management support to the National Capital Region.

  • The U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own,” the Army’s premier musical organization, which connects the Army to the American public through musical excellence and provides musical support to senior leadership and a wide spectrum of federal agencies and recruiting initiatives.

  • The U.S. Army Field Band, the premier touring musical representative for the U.S. Army, which travels thousands of miles nationally and internationally each year as a musical ambassador, accomplishing a public outreach mission that includes media appearances and performances in support of Army and DoD strategic outreach objectives.

  • U.S. Army Transportation Agency (White House), the oldest DOD component under the direction of White House Military Office, provides 24-hour worldwide ground logistical support to the Executive Office of the President of the United States and First Family with a highly selective and specialized team.
