COL Christopher J. Midberry

Chief of Staff

Colonel Chris Midberry in Chief of Staff of Joint Task Force-National Capital Region and U.S. Army Military District of Washington. A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, he earned a Bachelor of Science in 1999 and was commissioned as an Infantry Officer. He holds a Master of Arts from George Mason University, an M.B.A. from New York University’s Stern School of Business, and is a graduate of the National War College, National Defense University. Throughout his career, Midberry has served in a variety of command and staff assignments in Airborne, Mechanized, and Air Assault Infantry units.

COL Midberry served as a rifle platoon leader and scout platoon leader in the 82d Airborne Division from 2000-2004, where he was deployed to Kosovo in support of Operation Joint Guardian and to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF I). COL Midberry’s command assignments include command of A Co, 1-64th AR, 3d Infantry Division in Baghdad, Iraq, in support of OIF III, 2004-2006. COL Midberry commanded 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment from 2017-2019 at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and he later served as garrison commander at Fort Campbell from 2023-2025.

COL Midberry’s key staff assignments include Battalion S-1 and S3-Air for 1-325 AIR, BN S3 and XO for 2-504th PIR, where COL Midberry deployed twice in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He later served as Brigade XO for 1BCT, 82nd Airborne Division, and was an observer/controller at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center (JMRC) in Hohenfels, Germany. Additionally, COL Midberry served as an Assistant Professor at the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he taught Leadership to cadets in the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Leadership (BS&L). COL Midberry served as Division Chief on the Joint Staff, Joint Operations Directorate (J35) at the Pentagon. COL Midberry assumed duties as Chief of Staff of Joint Task Force-National Capitol Region and U.S. Army Military District of Washington in July 2025.

His military education includes the Infantry Officer Basic and Career Courses, Combined Arms and Staff Service School, the Command & General Staff College, Senior Service College, Airborne, Air Assault, Jumpmaster, Long Range Surveillance Leader, Mechanized Leader, and Ranger Courses.

His awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, Army Commendation Medal, and the Army Achievement Medal. He holds the Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Combat Infantryman’s badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, and Ranger Tab.
